Nokia N79 Review – A five Megapixel Winner!

The Nokia N79 is one of many 3G smart phones and it may well be one of the better ones; unsurprisingly many believe Nokia take the lead where business and personal smart phones are concerned and the N79 is no stranger to success. It is a very pretty phone as many Nokia’s are and comes in two colours: there is a very impressive white casing, which comes with blue green or brown covers. The grey casing, however comes with brown white or coral red covers. This ability to change the colour will appeal to the younger generation, and places the N79 firmly in the personal market as well as the business one.
This is not to say that the N79 is simply a style item; it may come in an array of colours but this is one very capable phone indeed. At only 97 g, and 50 mm deep, the N79 is a very compact and lightweight phone, yet it feels robust and well built as one would expect from a Nokia. A 2.4 inch screen displays 16 million colours, and with full adjustment to brightness and colour using the screen controls this device is a very nice display indeed. All of the Nokia N range has met with many plaudits and this was no surprise.
As with many smart phones these days the mobile Internet is all the rage; the N79 is very capable in this area supporting HTML, XHTML and WML Internet browsing. With fast technologies and quick connectivity, the transfer and download rates on the N79 are excellent making it one of the market leaders in this area of the mobile world. Broadband speed Internet is easily at hand and with 5 1/2 hours of talk time and a claimed 400 hours of standby time the story is very useful indeed. Furthermore, the claimed 29 hours of music playback is very impressive.
With Bluetooth as standard this very neat phone also comes with a USB port allowing the user to make direct connection between communicating devices. With 50 MB of internal memory, and the usual expandable memory card taking things up to 4 GB, the N79 lacks for nothing in terms of storage capability.
As is expected these days, the N79 has a built-in music player; with all popular formats supported and the built-in radio, the entertainment value of the N79 is more than impressive. The screen allows artwork to be displayed, playlists to be shown and more. Search capabilities allow the user to find music by artist name or even by genre, and the ability to change the volume by way of a very simple and accessible volume key makes things much easier.
A five megapixel camera with high-quality lens optics makes the N79 very much a market leader in this class smart phone. Dual LED flash and 20 times digital zoom brings a new world to mobile phone cameras, and all popular video formats are also supported by the N79. With video stabilising and autofocus this device is easy to use for even a very green novice.
With full GPS navigation support, and the impressive Nokia maps system, getting directions is very simple with the smart phone. Working on the Symbian operating system, this allows the N79 to have very neat menus and navigation. Indeed, we found it extremely easy to use in a very short time. The communication system includes voice over Internet protocol call logging and also a speakerphone which actually works, unlike many on lesser devices.
As a smart phone in this market should, the N79 features SMS and MMS messaging systems, and also e-mail and other business friendly systems. To conclude the N79 is another impressive device from the market leader in mobile phone manufacturer, and will find many friends among users.
