Nokia N900 Review– A Cool Hand Held Computer

If you are a gadget savvy person, who cannot forgo the high profile mobile phones, then you will die for the Nokia N900. It is not just another N series phone because it is a tablet and phone. The Nokia N900 is not only a slim mobile phone with dimensions of 110.9 x 59.8 x 18 mm and weight of 81 g, but also a slide full QWERTY keyboard mobile phone. The Li-Ion 1320 mAh battery provides a standby time of 278 hours for 2G and 250 hours for 3G, talk time of 6 hours 30 minutes for 2G and 4 hours 30 minutes for 3G and an incredible music play time of 24 hours 30 minutes.
The huge 3.5 inches resistive WVGA touch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels is definitely a winner. This is the second widest smart phone display, next only to Samsung 360 H1. Great image quality and splendid sunlight legibility makes the Nokia N900 the best in its class. The sensitivity of the screen is quite good and all you need is a gentle press to get the work done.
The slide out full QWERTY keyboard is another winner for the Nokia N900. The three row layout however requires you to use the shift and alt keys quite extensively to use the characters. There is also an onscreen numeric keypad for dialing the numbers. An additional virtual keyboard for text input is available when you want to send messages using the touch screen interface.
The music player is very basic, but it is not very interesting without advanced features. The FM transmitter is a good addition to share music with others. Video watching experience is good with large screen and DivX support. A 5MP Carl Zeiss camera is not much of an impresser for both still images and video even with dual LED flash.
The Maemo Linux based platform was not considered as a platform for smart phones until the release of the Nokia N900. In fact, it is much better than the S60 Symbian OS as the interface is very consistent. The OS works only in the landscape mode. For some mobile phones users, this is a bad point actually. So, Nokia has plans to introduce firmware upgrade to make the OS work in the portrait mode too. The cool feature of the Maemo OS is that you have to hit the task manager first to open the main menu if there are applications running. This task manager lists the browser tabs too so that you can switch easily.
The home screen is neat and simple with a limited number of widgets, but you can download new ones. Kinetic scrolling is enabled with most of the applications, but organizing the main menu is not quite easy. Regular PC shortcuts for commands like copy, paste, undo are all made available with the Nokia N900.
The phone book of the Nokia N900 is pretty basic and nothing much to talk about it. A dedicated call log is removed and you can view recent communications with the contact in the phone app. The telephony is good as expected, but the Nokia N900 lacks both smart and voice dialing. You can send SMS and emails using the Nokia N900, but not MMS and audio messages. There is no handwriting recognition, which is disappointing even with a stylus.
The Nokia N900 presents the best connectivity options with support for USB, Bluetooth, infrared, and Wi-Fi. Networks such as GPRS, EDGE and HSPA are supported to provide fast access to internet. Mozilla based browser is supreme and makes browsing very enjoyable. The organizer is complete, but the mobile office is a trail version. The built-in GPS receiver with Ovi Maps is great for navigation purpose. The Maemo platform is not fully developed and hence, the Nokia N900 allows use of third party applications.

Nokia 6760 Review– Tailor Made For Simple and Swift Social Messaging

The Nokia 6760 is a smart messenger phone in the lower midrange category. Known in the US as Nokia Surge, Nokia 6760 is so much focused on the use of the full QWERTY slide out keyboard. Measuring 97.5 x 57.9 x 15.5 mm and weighing 123.9 g, the Nokia 6760 is sure to fit your pockets while you are on the go. A Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery guarantees a standby time of 500 hours for 2G and 3G, talk time of 5 hours for 2G and 4 hours for 3G and music play time of 17 hours.
Compared to the real estate available on the front panel, the Nokia 6760 has a small 2.4” TFT screen. The QVGA screen has very good legibility under sunlight and it also has a brighter screen. An ambient light sensor is integrated with the ear piece to avoid extra sensor on the front panel. Below the screen, there are call and end keys along with the D pad. Additional hardware keys for quick access to browser, menu and messaging are placed on the left side of the display.
A full slide out QWERTY keyboard is the main center of attraction for the Nokia 6760. There is no alphanumeric keypad and hence, when you need to dial numbers, you should use the slide out keyboard only. The keys are all neatly arranged in three rows and the design makes it very comfortable to use the messaging option without any hassle.
3MP camera is found at the back of the Nokia 6760. There is no LED flash or self portrait mirror that can improve the quality of pictures taken. Video recording at 51 fps QVGA is quite good. The music player that comes with the Nokia 6760 is pretty decent even though you can’t expect full end musical features, however, various formats are supported by the player. As the slide model is not designed for musical lovers, there are no dedicated music keys. The video player is basic without any support for DivX or XviD. FM radio with RDS support makes the entertainment package of Nokia 6760 complete.
The Nokia 6760 runs on Symbian S60 3rd edition user interface. If you are already used to the Symbian interface and feature pack 2 in the E series phone, you won’t find anything new or intriguing in the Nokia 6760. 5th edition styling is brought about by S60 icons and accelerometer rotates orientation of the home screen as you rotate the phone. The active standby mode lets you add shortcuts for websites and applications to the home screen. Home screen notifications can also be customized depending on how you want to use your phone. Aside from the built in 128MB, you can exploit additional memory through using microSD cards.
The telephony of the Nokia 6760 is as good as any other high end phone with good reception and call sound quality. The phonebook has been revamped with a couple of extra features. You can now get windows live integration and Ovi contacts integration. Once you logon with your windows ID, you can use all types of windows message services. SMS, MMS and emails are supported by the Nokia 6760. Nokia messaging email client can be configured to handle various email accounts.
The connectivity options with the Nokia 6760 are a mixed bag. You will get Bluetooth, USB 2.0, 2.5mm audio jack, GPRS/EDGE, and dual band HSDPA, but there is no Wi-Fi and standard 3.5mm audio jack. Elaborate web browser exploits connectivity options. Organizers are very well equipped and the mobile office is worth a special mention with support for Word, Excel, PDF, PowerPoint, and Zip manager. The Nokia 6760 has GPS receiver and you can share your location with your friends using Ovi maps. Aside from standard 2D mode, you can also use interactive 3D mode for Ovi maps for navigation.

Nokia 5630 Review – A Mid Range Slim Music Phone

Nokia 5630 is a thin and eccentric XpressMusic handset that is sure to impress entertainment gadget lovers. Available in three color versions, Nokia 5630 looks very fresh and appealing. Nokia 5630 can easily slip into your pockets with dimensions of 112 x 46 x 12 mm and weight of 83 g. The Li-Ion 860 mAh battery provides a standby time of 400 hours for 2G and 408 hours for 3G, talk time of 7 hours for 2G and 4 hours for 3G and music play time of 25 hours.
The Nokia 5630 features a beautiful 2.2-inch QVGA display that offers incomparable brightness with resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. However, the screen looks smaller as there is more real estate on the front panel of the phone. Below the screen, there is a D pad along with the alphanumeric keypad. The keys are small, but once you get used to those keys, you can use the Nokia 5630 without worries.
A 3MP camera with maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels is available with the Nokia 5630. It has dual LED flash, but there is no camera protection. There is no auto focus too. The camera has a handful of features and image quality is good. The videos are recorded in VGA resolution at 15 fps, which is good only for MMS.
The XpressMusic player of the Nokia 5630 caters to the demand of music lovers, just like any other XpressMusic phone, but when you expect more, you will be disappointed. The Dedicated music keys make the music player just a click away. Say and Play features let you say a song to play it. The Video player is good enough, but the small screen makes it viewing videos uncomfortable. Also, there is no DivX or XviD support. The FM radio with RDS support and internet radio will be enjoyed by music lovers.
The Nokia 5630 has Symbian S60 3rd edition operating system with several notable features. The contacts bar is placed at the bottom of the standby screen. Interestingly, you can add a RSS feeds to your contacts stored in the Nokia 5630. You can view your communication with the contacts from the same screen. The task manager is improvised and it pops up with every pop up menu. The voice recognition system recognizes your commands to the T.
As with other Symbian mobile phones, the phone book is highly robust with all features possible. Videos and personal ringtones can be assigned to contacts. The telephony is quite good and sound quality is very good when the phone rings. Ovi contacts are integrated to the phonebook, and it comes preinstalled in the Nokia 5630. Instant messaging to your friends is as simple as sending out a message. Gtalk support for Ovi contacts is also available.
The Nokia 5630 has a very decent keypad designed exclusively for the youth who show more interest in messaging rather than calling. SMS, MMS and emails are supported and you can manage messaging your contacts very effectively. MMS can be created without any extra editor because when you add pictures or other media to your SMS, it becomes an MMS. The audio message editor helps you send audio messages. The email client is simple and user friendly. Message reader app reads your emails, which is quite impressive.
Data transfer is supported by the USB and Bluetooth. To connect to the internet, you can use Wi-Fi, GPRS/EDGE or HSDPA/HSUPA. The Browser is very good with full java and flash support, but again, the small screen limits the enjoyment. The organizer features are good for the XpressMusic handset and the search application is quite useful to search the entire phone. The dictionary application is fully featured and you can download more languages if you need from the Nokia website. There are a couple of preloaded trial version of games, but there is a single activation key to activate one of those games you want. Of course, you can download more if you want.

Nokia 5530 – A Low Cost Touch Screen Music Phone

Nokia 5530 is a remarkable phone in the XpressMusic series that includes as many features as possible for a low price tag, making technology more affordable for everyone. This 2G mobile phone was basically designed to bring the touch screen to everyone so that people can enjoy the UI of the Symbian S60 operating system. The Nokia 5530 is a slim version measuring 104 x 49 x 13 mm and weighing 107 g. The Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery provides superior talk time of 4 hours 54 minutes, music play for 27 hours and standby time of 336 hours.
The front side of the Nokia 5530 is dominated by touch screen. The call keys and menu hardware keys too are touch operated. A proximity sensor is found at the front side. The Nokia 5530 has a 2.9” resistive touch screen with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels and it can display 16 million colors. The sensitivity is very much improved than its predecessors and you won’t find the need to use the stylus as you use the phone. The major problem with the screen is that it has very poor legibility under sunlight. The accelerometer rotates the view of the phone when you change the phone mode from portrait to landscape and vice versa.
The Symbian S60 user interface is pretty much inspiring to use. The finger scrolling option in the interface is very much improved, making the phone more finger-friendly. However, the list scrolling is confusing with the Nokia 5530. Also, the opening items in the list are different from the opening icons. You need to get used to the interface in order to use the Nokia 5530 in an efficient way. The home screen is very much customizable and you can access all your favorite applications from the main screen itself.
The phonebook of the Nokia 5530 brings in no new options. The search feature is made much more user friendly. Telephony is perfect as with any other Nokia mobile phone, but there is no smart dialing feature. However, the voice dialing option compensates for the absence of smart dialing. You can silence the mobile phone by flipping it because of the accelerometer. All types of messaging such as SMS, MMS and emails can be sent using a common editor. For typing, you can use the alphanumeric keypad in portrait mode or tilt the phone to landscape mode to bring up the full QWERTY keyboard. Handwriting recognition is another interesting feature that requires you to input your handwriting using stylus.
The Nokia 5530 has a 3.15MP camera with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. However, the camera is not of very good quality as in the case of 5800 XpressMusic model. There is a LED flash; however the picture quality is not quite good. Photos can be Geo tagged and a number of image editing options are available. The video is also disappointing, but there are few settings which you can use for your captured videos.
As the Nokia 5530 is a XpressMusic mobile phone, the music player is as good as expected. There are quite a few cosmetic changes made to the music player and it is completely touch optimized. A huge number of file formats are supported by the media player and the equalizer is available to change the way you want to listen to your favorite music. The FM player with RDS support makes it possible to listen to music when you are on the go. Watching a video in the Nokia 5530 is pretty satisfactory; however, the small screen limits the enjoyment. Further, DivX and XviD formats are not supported by the player.
Wi-Fi connectivity is a welcome addition to the Nokia 5530 aside from Bluetooth and USB connection options. Web browser is also good to use with a few modern features including flash support. However, the Nokia 5530 doesn’t have a GPS receiver.

Nokia N97 stirred the world of mobile phones and it is a complete smart phone with all the features that you could ever dream off, even though there is room for some shortcomings. The Nokia N97 is quite large with dimensions of 117.2 x 55.3 x 15. mm and weight of 150 g. The Li-ion 1500 mAh battery is pretty much satisfactory with a standby time of 432 hours for 2G and 408 hours for 3G, talk time of 9 hours 30 minutes for 2G and 6 hours of 3G as well as music play of 40 hours.
Nokia N97 has 3.5” resistive touch screen, with a pretty decent resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. The sunlight legibility is very good and it definitely makes the Nokia N97, a winner. As the screen is resistive, you can freely use the stylus to activate the menus and options. At the bottom of the screen, you will find the call and end touch sensitive keys. Contrastingly, the menu key is a regular button. There is a video call camera which enables video calling. The slide out design of the full QWERTY keyboard is impressive; however, the build is mostly plastic. Keys are big and arranged in three rows.
The Nokia N97 features a huge 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens and dual LED flash. With extensive settings, it is a very good camera to use while on the go. However, there is no smile detection, face detection and blink prevention features available with the competitors of Nokia N97. The videos are of MMS quality as the camera can shoot videos with VGA resolution at 30fps.
The music player of the Nokia N97 incorporates a few changes and it is designed for a touch screen mobile phone. A number of formats are supported by the music player and the equalizer options make listening to music in the Nokia N97, a pleasurable experience. You can work with other features of the phone with the player running at the background. There is also an FM radio with RDS support. The FM transmitter is an interesting addition to the entertainment package of the Nokia N97 because now, you can stream your favorite music to a FM radio receiver in your range.
The large screen of the Nokia N97 encourages using the video player with decent features. However, lack of XviD and DivX is disappointing. Onboard memory is a massive 32GMB and externally, it can be extended to up to 16GB using the microSD slot.
The Nokia N97 uses Symbian S60 5th edition user interface and it makes the touch screen more usable. If you have already used the S60 platforms in other Nokia mobile phones, the Nokia N97 will be your piece of cake. There are several widgets available and you can customize these widgets on the home screen. The screen rotates for your convenience as you slide out the keyboard. Thumb scrolling is enabled, even though using the scrolling bar makes things easier with the Nokia N97.
The phonebook of the Nokia N97 is similar to other Nokia phones. Editing and organizing contacts is much easier with the new interface. Voice dialing option is pretty much easier to use, but surprisingly, the Nokia has left out the smart dialing feature in the Nokia N97. Common messages SMS, MMS and emails are supported by the Nokia N97 using the same common editor. Audio messages can be recorded and sent separately using a dedicated editor. Alphanumeric keypad is available on screen in both portrait and landscape modes, but the QWERTY keyboard is much easier to use. Handwriting recognition is impulsive and useful.
The connectivity options for the Nokia N97 are extensive, thanks to 3G support. The web browser is neat and supports flash and java content. The built in GPS receiver and Nokia Maps lets you navigate without confusion. It appears that the Nokia has completely forgotten to load at least one preinstalled games, though you can download and play Java games.

Nokia N97 Mini Designed For the Style Conscious Mobile Phone User

Nokia N97 mini is one of the interesting mobile phones in the N series. Apparently, it is a slightly downgraded version of the original N97. Mini is more compact and light. With a smaller display, lesser internal memory and smaller battery, the Nokia N97 mini is perfect for those who want the high end features, but ready to lose some tweaks for the lower price. The Nokia N97 mini weighs 139 g and measures 13 x 52.5 x 14.2 mm. The battery too is downgraded from 1500 mAH in the N97 to 1200 mAh, but it still provides good value with a standby time of 320 hours for the 2G and 310 hours for 3G, talk time of 7 hours 10 minutes for 2G and 6 hours for 3G and music play of 32 hours.
The design of the Nokia N97 mini is flawless and it is definitely the compact smart phone in the side slider class of mobile phones. The Mini has a 3.2” TFT resistive touch screen with 360 x 640 pixels resolution and it can display 16 million colors. Even though the size of the screen is lesser than that of the N7, the image quality is the same. The touch screen is very sensitive and sunlight legibility is good. The video call camera, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor is located above the screen. The side slide QWERTY keyboard has 3 rows of keys and the layout is very much similar to the N97, except that the weird D-pad is replaced by traditional arrow keys, which are very much comfortable to use.
A 5 MP camera is located at the back of Nokia N97 mini along with dual a LED flash. The Camera is unprotected without cover and hence, you have to be careful while handling the phone. The still images are good, but videos are recorded only at 30fps. The music player is pretty decent with enough functionality, even though the looks are not so cool. The audio quality is excellent and the speakers deliver what is promised by the music player. The video player is basic without support for XVid and DivX videos. FM radio with RDS support is a welcome addition and the FM transmitter in the N97 is omitted.
The Symbian S60 5th edition operating system offers a unique touch screen experience. Due to firmware up gradation, Nokia is able to provide kinetic scrolling feature. Widget enabled home screen can be customized with your widget preferences. List items require double touch for opening, while a single touch on icons is all that is required to open applications. Preinstalled widgets corresponding to Amazon, Facebook, AccuWeather, CNN, and others are available. You can use the Ovi Store to download more widgets if you want. If you love Symbian mobile phones, then you will enjoy the tweaks spread out all over the interface in the Nokia N97 mini.
A pretty standard phonebook with enhanced search and find options is seen in the Nokia N97 mini. There is still no smart dialing even though voice dialing is provided. Incoming calls and alarms can be silenced by flipping the phone over, thanks to the accelerometer.
Nokia follows the standard interface for messaging – SMS, MMS and emails. Audio messages can be created using a separate editor. If you are more of a touch screen guy, you can use the alphanumeric onscreen keypad, though it must be admitted that the slide out keyboard is very convenient. The email client is neat and it supports a variety of protocols.
There are no complaints regarding connectivity options offered by the Nokia N97 mini, as it supports GPRS, EDGE and 3G. Wi-Fi lets you get connected anytime and anywhere. The web browser is good for browsing with flash and java support, but it is not touch optimized. The Nokia N97 mini has an onboard GPS receiver and it comes in handy with Ovi Maps.

The Nokia 6700 is one of the Nokia phones that have attracted the masses. It is a simple and seemingly perfect handset that has all the features you would normally expect from any popular Nokia phone. The shiny outer panels are very attractive with the Nokia 6700. Nothing can be complained about of the outer design for the 6700. The outer panel is made of stainless steel which is smudge resistant. Even if it gets greasy, cleaning the panel is as simple as wiping off with a piece of cloth. A 2.2-inch TFT display of the Nokia 6700 displays 16 million colors and supports QVGA resolution. You can view decent and bright images with fine contrast using the display. The greatest advantage with the display is that it is legible even during bright sunny days.
At the back of the Nokia 6700, you will find a very good 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. This flash unit is very tiny and has less significance as compared to its other features. The built-in image editor makes it easy to edit images you have just captured. There are a few interesting options indeed. You can record videos too at the precise quality. The camera is completely exposed without any kind of protection. To maintain the high quality images irrespective of the age of the mobile, you have to handle it carefully.
If you have already been used to a Nokia user interface, then S40 interface will be nothing different to you. However, you can find some minor tweaks incorporated in the menu of the Nokia 6700 so that it is more interesting to use. The fully featured phone book along with an option to store contact pictures is more than enough for your normal use. When it comes to telephony, the Nokia 6700 works like a charm. You will be more than satisfied to use the phone for making and receiving calls. The absence of a smart dialing feature in such an advanced phone is still disappointing. Internet connectivity is good and the updated web browser is interesting to use.

The importance of Ovi maps can’t be overlooked though. Many interesting games are preinstalled in the Nokia 6700. Even with a lot of features, lack of multi-tasking is very annoying because you can’t take advantage of many incredible features simultaneously.
