Nokia 6210 Navigator Review – Never Get Lost Again
The Nokia 6210 Navigator is just the thing for travel junkies: A compact slider phone and a Symbian OS 9.3 operating system, a decent 3.2 megapixel camera, and most importantly, an A-GPS (Assisted Global Positioning System) coupled with a digital compass and Nokia Maps 2.0, making it possible for you to get to where you’re going in no time.
A Glimpse of the Design and Basics
The Nokia 6210 Navigator is a follow up to its descendant, the older Nokia 6110 Navigator, which also featured built in GPS. It boasts a SatNav (satellite navigation) system from NavTeq, one of the leading providers of GPS data in the world, showing how serious the company is in delivering a sincere GPS device through their mobile phones.
What’s more, the Symbian OS is the standard in Nokia’s high-end N-series, making it almost at par with high-end Smartphones, giving it more features from your standard call and SMS mobile phone.
The design is very similar to the Nokia 6220 classic, down to the physical interface with the keypad, as well as the dimensions – which is a good thing, as the 6220 was a compact and very mobile device. The major difference is that the Nokia 6210 Navigator sports a bigger 2.4 inch screen, obviously for better viewing of the GPS. Plus points to Nokia for making the screen not only high resolution, but also viewable at any angle, even if tilted, which is very important for GPS viewing.
The design is very straightforward with the basic user interface easy to use – a classic characteristic of Nokia’s phones. The phone itself has a very solid feel to it, but is also lightweight (you have to ask Nokia’s engineers how they managed to spin that sort of magic) which is again important for those who like to travel. A bulky phone can turn to be a necessary annoyance, but this is not so with the Nokia 6210 Navigator.
A Glimpse of the Performance and Other Features
One good point for the phone is the fast processing of the unit, which means less lag times, enabling you to get your data faster. The 369MHz ARM processor is more than capable of giving the phone the processing power it needs to perform its functions.
Aside from GPS, the phone’s digital compass makes pedestrian navigation a piece of cake, updating constantly and adjusting to the map to fit the current location the user is in.
The phone also has 3g and a secondary camera for video calls, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. It has an internal memory of 120 megabytes, plus a memory card slot that can accommodate cards up to 8 gigabytes.
The Verdict: Is the Nokia 6210 Navigator the right choice?
There are a number of impediments to making the Nokia 6210 Navigator a whooping success, one of which is the GPS’ difficulty in navigating vehicle routes. The screen may be bigger and wider than the usual fare, but might prove insufficient for those who are uncomfortable with using so small an interface. The keypad is too cramped, and while a lack of a camera cover isn’t always a bad thing, in this case, keeping extra protection over a lens for a travel phone might be a good idea. There is also the issue of it not having any WiFi connectivity, but if you can be happy with 3g browsing, then it’s not a big problem.
There are also some issues with the battery, as it may prove inadequate for long term use, with a fully charged battery lasting less than 2 hours with constant GPS use. For in-vehicle navigation, it might be a wise choice to get yourself a car charger while the phone is in use. However, the talk time proves to be better news, offering up to 3 hours and 40 minutes of straight talk time, and 2 hours and 48 minutes with video call.
